Composites of Silk Nanofibrils and Metal–Organic Framework Nanosheets for Fluorescence-Based Sensing and UV Shielding

Silk fibroin, a widely used natural biopolymer, presents remarkable flexibility and biodegradability, making it of great interest as polymer matrix for functional composite materials. Herein, composites silk nanofibrils metal–organic framework (MOF) nanosheets were successfully fabricated by coincubation coassembly process. Under heat incubation, fibroin self-assembled into one-dimensional nanofibrils, while MOF simultaneously covered or wrapped on the in water suspension. Transparent membranes obtained from their suspensions solution casting method. The regenerated formed network structure, integrated (0.1 to 3.0 wt %) endowed with aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIEgen)-based fluorescence. fluorescence intensity was significantly enhanced owing interfacial interactions between nanosheets. also offer excellent UV shielding maintaining optical transparency visible spectrum. This work provides an efficient pathway fabricate luminescent protein-based materials such sensing anticounterfeiting.
